Install and Uninstall
How to install and uninstall Ergo Romanian. How to remove other layouts you installed in the past (optional)

Install is straight forward: just run the install EXE you downloaded and follow prompts. Then reboot, and if you have the taskbar's language icon visible in Windows, you'll find the Romanian ER1 and Romanian ER2 layouts readily available there. If you can't see the taskbar's language icon, you need some simple OS settings. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306993&sd=tech.

Uninstall Ergo Romanian from Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs. Uninstall removes all Ergo Romanian files and settings; your system is back to the state before installation.

  • The following procedure is not needed. But if you wanted to cleanup older layouts that had no uninstall, you can do it now.

    efore Installing Ergo Romanian:
How to Clean Up Older Keyboard Layouts (from other sources)

If you installed Romanian layouts from other sources in the past, you noticed some had no Uninstall. You may wish to clean your machine before installing Ergo Romanian. If you always correctly uninstalled layouts, ignore this section. Otherwise, optionally, do as follows:

Step 1.

Go Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages > Details. If you don't see all keyboards you installed over time, use the Add button now and put them all back. Then reboot.

Step 2.

Again, go Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages > Details, and remove all languages and keyboards except your system keyboard (like English with its US keyboard).

Step 3.

Run Uninstall for all layouts that have one.

Step 4.

Run regedit to edit the registry. Go to key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layouts". Don't touch subkey 00000418, but find any other subkey that ends in 0418.

As you find such a subkey, open it and note the value "Layout File" points to a .dll file. Open Windows Explorer and delete that .dll file from System32 (under your Windows folder) and from the dllcache subfolder. Then delete the registry subkey itself (the one ending in 0418).

Repeat this operation until no subkeys ending in 0418 are left (except for 00000418). Then reboot.

Remember, this sequence of steps is optional. If you decide for the cleanup, only perform it before installing Ergo Romanian.
